  Saifur retires from politics
  18 / 4 / 2009

Announcing his self-willing retirement from politics, BNP standing committee member and former finance minister M Saifur Rahman yesterday submitted his resignation letter to the party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

Citing health he said that his present health condition \'does not permit\' him to continue politics.

\"It is not possible for me to stay at party office from evening to late night and visit district to district for party meetings,\" he told journalists at his Gulshan residence while elaborating the reason behind his resignation.

The senior leader of the party and former finance minister also said that this time BNP was passing the ever -worst time for which he blamed former secretary general of the party Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan.

He was also critical of the party secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain.

The former secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyana did not visit any district for organisational purposes and the present secretary generalKanadker Delwar so far did not take any visit to district in party\'s interest, he added.

Mentioning the necessity of honest and competent leaderships in all committees of the party as well as in the capital city, the former minister said, \" It would be beneficial for party if the high ups of the party brought honest, dedicated and competent leaders in all committees of BNP\".

He said only honest, dedicated and tested leaders could strengthen the organisational capacities of the party.

It may be mentioned that after the change over of 1/11, some leaders of BNP had emerged as \'reformists\' by declaring a new committee headed by Saifur Rahman when the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was in sub jail.

Later, before going to Singapore for medical check up Saifur Rahman declared the committee under his leadership as infructuous. He later joined the main stream BNP soon after the release of Begum Zia from confinement.
